Frederick Field murdered Beatrice Vilna Sutton 48 by strangling her at Elmhurst Mansions, Clapham, London on 4 April 1936. She was found dead on her bed with several pillows on her face.

When Frederick Field, who was an airman stationed in hendon was later questioned he confessed saying that he killed her because he wanted to murder someone. he said that he was tired of living but didnt have the nerve to commit suicide and so he decided to commit a capital crime and be hung.

Frederick Field had been tried previously for the murder of Annie Louisa Upchurch at the Old Bailey but aquitted.
